Originally Aisle Runners were laid out to protect the bride’s gown from getting dirty. In the old days when roads and walk ways were only dirt, may guests would track in on their shoes a lot of dirt and mud. The Aisle Runner was laid down just prior to the processional, so that the bride’s dress would not get dirty.
